The creative arts are encouraged from Foundation level and progress right up to A Level if desired. A whole range of mediums is explored including fine art, ceramics, and photography plus much more.
Students of all ages have the opportunity to become involved in choirs, orchestras, bands and ensembles
We nurture energetic creativity and value the Performing and Creative Arts as a critical learning tool that helps develop well-rounded individuals and encourages skills that are vital for success in later life.

Children are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities to explore and develop their skills in Music, Dance and Drama.
Creative and Performing Arts
Students are encouraged to explore their talents within painting, drawing, printmaking, photography or ceramics, allowing them to experience a wide range of techniques and applications. All students study Art and Design up to the end of Key Stage 3 after which it becomes an external examination option
In Music classes students learn to use musical concepts and vocabulary through interactive singing, listening and writing activities. The exploration of Sound, Pitch, Rhythm, Orchestration and many other topics is an ongoing process of active participation through which students discover and expand their knowledge of the Musical World both present and past.
STEAM BIS-Umeå Music Programme provides opportunities for all children to participate in a variety of musical activities and events. Some of these events include choral evenings, musical productions and assemblies, as well as concerts with visiting musicians and those in the local community.
Drama is recognised as a subject that benefits the overall learning and development of children. There are three main strands to the effective use of drama: a means to build children’s confidence and develop their social skills; a teaching approach for exploring cross-curricular subjects and issues, and an aid in developing children’s performance and self-presentation skills.
Dance is a compulsory component of our Physical Education programme. All children have the opportunity to experience creative expression and visual performance through this medium. A variety of themes are explored inspired by music and imagery. STEAM BIS-Umeå also has thriving dance clubs which are accessed through our ASA Programme.
For primary classes dance is taught as an integral part of the compulsory Physical Education programme. Through dance our students learn to explore basic body actions so that they can create and repeat short dances inspired by themes and music.
In secondary school dance is offered as part of the Arts programme for shows, contest and productions.
